mixtape mondays – native tongues mix part I & II

After months of throwing around ideas on what our first official mix would be, we decided to go with The Native Tongues Mix. We collaborated with one of our favorite DJ’s and all around good guy, DJ SourMilk from the Los Angeles Leakers. SourMilk blessed us with not only one, but a two part mix! Over 2 hours of all the best from A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Brand Nubian, The Beatnuts, Queen Latifah and a whole lot more! (Check the track list after the jump). With the mix being as dope as it is we HAD TO release a LIMITED EDITION Native Tongues tee. The shirt can be purchased right here but hurry because once they’re gone, they are gone.

Thank you for the continued support of So Much Soul and the Los Angeles Leakers. Be sure to stay tuned for more mixed to come.

mixtape mondays – big brother

This weeks mix is short & sweet! “Big Brother” (mixed by Pipomixes) was recorded sometime in 2005/2006 and released in 2008, yet mixes like this never get old! With classics from Tribe, De La & Slum….you can’t go wrong! After reading the reasoning behind this mix, it made it all that much better.

“The mix was inspired by a Little Brother interview I read a few years ago. In the interview, I remember the interviewer asked the group why they went with the name “Little Brother”. The group replied that they chose the name because they felt that musically, they were the “little brother” of groups like ATCQ, De La Soul, and Slum Village. In the spirit of that interview, I put together a 40 minute mix of Tribe, De La, and Slum V classics titled “Big Brother”. – Pipomixes

Happy Mixtape Monday!

way back wednesdays – 1nce again

Way back to 1996 we have “1nce Again”, the first single from A Tribe Called Quest’s fourth album “Beats, Rhymes and Life”. The music video begins with the group recreating the “Check the Rhime” video off “The Low End Theory” album. The song was the first ATCQ single to feature production by J Dilla…needless to say, yet another great throwback! Turn it up louder and then go check out our new “The Soul End Theory” tee!
