obamix: the re-election

4 years ago my brothers the LA Leakers (sourMilk and Justin Credible) put out one of my favorite mixes of all time… Obamix. Today, they hit us with Obamix: The Re-Election. I was blessed enough to be tapped to create the art 4 years ago and again for the mix today. Download it, enjoy it and get out and vote.

“4 years ago, we did an #Obamix during the election. We decided that we would make a few changes to it and put it out again for this election. It’s only right. Big shout to our guy Boogie B over at So Much Soul for the artwork as always! Please feel free to pass this along.” -LA Leakers

mixtape mondays **bonus – someofmyfavoritethings august 2012

“It’s that time again, everyone’s favorite time (and by everyone, I mean ME), someofmyfavoritethingstime! Since I started going on the road a lot more, my schedule has gone to hell. I used to try to put a monthly mix out, now I do it when I feel like it. Some of you know the deal with these mixes, just a super random mix of music. No structure at all, just me pressing record and scrolling through my Serato. Here’s some of the stuff I’ve been listening to lately.” -sourMilk

photos: bubble gum july 2012

This week’s Bubble Gum welcomed special guest DJ E-Man (Unrivaled DJ’s, Power 106, Big Boy’s Neighborhood). We also welcomed back DJ sourMilk from a little break touring with Dev. As always, good music and good vibes filled the Blu Monkey as they do every first Tuesday of the month. Shouts out to Playmaker and B-Eazy for starting the night of right and of course E-Man for murdering the tables and then sourMilk for shutting down the night like only he can! Be sure to come out next month!

“1990… For those that don’t know, I started a new mix series, every month is a different year in Hip-Hop. For the month of Feb, it was 1990.

Shout out to my man, Boogie B, from So Much Soul for always lacing me with the illest artwork!!!” -sourMILK

mixtape mondays… on a tuesday! – #hiphopyearbook (1989)

The first installment to DJ SourMilk’s #HipHopYearbook comes to you from the year 1989. I had the pleasure to provide the artwork for this mix and hopefully I’ll be tapped to do the art for the remaining mixes. Download it, listen to it and enjoy it! For more on the mix read the posting below from SourMilk:

“So I got this idea last year and I wanted to see if I could actually follow through with it the whole year. I wanted to do a Hip-Hop Yearbook. Starting with 1989, every month, release a new mix for a new year. Jan is 89, Feb is 90, etc. Now I know what I’m getting myself into with all the Hip-Hop nerds out there. You guys are gonna tear me apart (selection wise). “How did you not put ____ on the 1990 mix?!” I’m just picking songs that I currently have in my Serato, give me a break. I’m sure there’s gonna be songs that I’m missing, but fuck you. I’m doing the mix, NOT YOU! You’re also gonna say, “But that song wasn’t released in 89!” For example, “Fight the Power” was on Fear of a Black Planet and that came out in 1990. Yes, it was. It was also on the Do the Right Thing Soundtrack though, which was released in 1989. Anyway, enough explaining. I’ll post a new mix (hopefully) at the end of every month until the year is over with artwork by good folks over at So Much Soul. I’m starting with 1989, so that download link is below. Please feel free to pass along, blog, blast, or delete if you don’t like it. THANK YOU!”

mixtape mondays – native tongues mix part I & II

After months of throwing around ideas on what our first official mix would be, we decided to go with The Native Tongues Mix. We collaborated with one of our favorite DJ’s and all around good guy, DJ SourMilk from the Los Angeles Leakers. SourMilk blessed us with not only one, but a two part mix! Over 2 hours of all the best from A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Brand Nubian, The Beatnuts, Queen Latifah and a whole lot more! (Check the track list after the jump). With the mix being as dope as it is we HAD TO release a LIMITED EDITION Native Tongues tee. The shirt can be purchased right here but hurry because once they’re gone, they are gone.

Thank you for the continued support of So Much Soul and the Los Angeles Leakers. Be sure to stay tuned for more mixed to come.
